Multipair and multi-core cables to BS 5308 specification are generally used within industrial process manufacturing plants for communications, data and voice, transmission signals and services. They facilitate the interconnectivity of control panels with associated controllers, electrical equipment and other instrumentation.
Indoor systems: generally use Type 1 unarmoured cables
Outdoor systems: (Typically buried underground) generally use Type 2 armoured cables
Hostile Environments
It is important to identify what type of environment cables will be subjected to during service; it may be possible that standard BS 5308 cables are not suited to certain hostile environments. Our Technical Department will be pleased to advise on your requirements.
Intrinsically Safe Systems
When installing intrinsically safe systems, it is important that the cables used conform to the requirement outlined in the system'sequipment documentation. However, standard BS 5308 cables are suitable for use within Group 2 intrinsically safe systems.
Fire Performance and Fire Resistance Properties
In addition to standard PVC sheaths, Concord Cables offer enhanced PVC sheathing compunds to provide either reduced propogation (RP) or reduced propogation with reduced acid gas emission (RPHCL).
Alternatively low smoke zero halogen (LS0H) materials with flame retardant properties can be supplied accross the BS5308 cable range.
Where fire integrity (commonly known as fire survival) is required, Concord Cables can offer cables with IEC 60331 capability.
Availability
Cables for Parts 1 & 2 are manufactured to order. When ordering any of the above cables with fire performance material options please specify bedding and or sheath requirements.
We also offer non-standard constructions with different conductor sizes, pair and or core combinations.
